On September 18th, 2012, Northern Plains Insurance Company, Inc. was placed
into liquidation by the State of South Dakota, County of Hughes Sixth Judicial
Court
(See
Order of Liquidation). Merle Scheiber, Director of Insurance for the State of South Dakota,
was appointed Liquidator.
Also on September 18th, 2012, Merle Scheiber appointed Michael FitzGibbons
of FitzGibbons and Company, Inc. as Special Deputy Liquidator
(See
Appointment of Special Deputy).
All persons who may have claims against the
Company must file a verified originial
Proof
of Claim (POC).
By issue of the Order, pursuant to SDCL § 58-29B-47, all policies in effect at
the time of issuance of an Order of Liquidation continue in force only
for the lesser of:
(1) thirty days from the date of entry of the
liquidation order (i.e. October 18, 2012 at 11:59 pm CST;
(2) the expiration of the policy coverage;
(3) the date when the insured has replaced
the insurance coverage with equivalent insurance with another insurer or
otherwise terminated the policy; or
(4) the Liquidator has effected a transfer
of the policy obligation pursuant to SDCL § 58-29B-49

- If your renewal is between 9-18-12 and 10-18-12, your policy will cancel at the latest 10-18-12. Payment for the period
after 10-18-12, or an earlier cancellation date, will be returned to
the policyholder. This return of premium doesn't involve the
SDIGA so the $100 deductible would not apply.
- Installment payments and reinstatements
received on policies in force as of 9-18-12 will cancel at the
latest 10-18-12. Payments for the period after 10-18-12, or an
earlier cancellation date, will be returned to the policyholder.

- EFT(s) will be accepted on policies in force
as of 9-18-12 where this installment payment is for coverage during
the 30 day period ending 10-18-12. Payment for the period
after 10-18-12, or an earlier cancellation date, will be returned to
the policyholder. This return of premium doesn't involve the
SDIGA so the $100 deductible would not apply.
- For any payments received and deposited by
check or EFT on or after 9-18-12 for due dates 9-18-12 and
subsequent, the policyholder will be charged only for the days of
coverage until cancellation, replacement or termination on 10-18-12.
The unearned portion of the payments received will be returned to
the policyholder. The SDIGA deductible doesn't apply to this
return of premium.
